We should never forget. We must continue the fight.

This is the message being imparted by “Fighting Impunity: The 2010 Multi-media Competition,” which is organized by the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR), Freedom Fund for Filipino Journalists (FFFJ), and the UP College of Mass Communication (UP CMC).

The contest serves as a remembrance of the first anniversary of the heinous Maguindanao Massacre. While en route to file Maguindanao gubernatorial aspirant Ishmael Mangudadatu’s certificate of candidacy, 58 people, including 32 media practitioners, were brutally killed by about 100 men in Ampatuan, Maguindanao on November 23. Almost a year after the incident, justice for the victims remains elusive and the perpetrators are yet to be convicted.

“Fighting Impunity” is open to all college students/student teams currently enrolled in any of the universities/colleges/schools in the Philippines. Contestants’ entries may be in the form of a poster, a 30-60 second radio plug, or a 30-60 second video; there is no limit to the number of entries a contestant may submit. The works must fall under any of the three themes featured in the competition: ending the culture of impunity, the media’s public service role, and democracy and the killing of journalists.

A total of P120,000 awaits the winners of the competition. Deadlines for entires are on October 11 (poster category), October 20 (radio plug category), and October 29 (video category). Entries may be submitted to the following:
